The HYSON 100KN-LW is a simple to operate highly portable, 100 kN single-cylinder pushing force CPT system, designed to operate in locations inaccessible to other equipment (e.g. basements, back yards, swampy and overgrown land). Its main features are: light weight (only 85 kg) due to unique single cylinder design, small footprint (165 x 310 cm without anchors), versatility and reliability. This results in an easy to operate and highly portable Cone Penetration Test (CPT) unit, with no part heavier than the weight of a person.

The stand-alone hydraulic power pack has a petrol engine and weighs 77 kg (hydraulic oil excluded). When working in confined spaces or when exhaust fumes/noise would be an issue, an electrical hydraulic power pack is offered as an option.

To counter the reaction forces while testing, the equipment should be secured in some way. Four rugged auger soil anchors are provided. In this way, a CPT test of 30 metres is feasible (actual depth depends on soil conditions).

Anchors can be set manually or much more easily using the 60 kg HYGAND, a hydraulic anchor setting device driven by the hydraulic power pack and that is broken down for transport.

To obtain detailed and accurate information, the HYSON 100KN-LW light weight Cone Penetration Test (CPT) system measures four standard CPT parameters:

cone tip resistance (qc)
sleeve friction (fs)
pore water pressure (u)
inclination (Ix/y)

Using click-on plug & play modules, additional parameters can be collected including undrained and remoulded shear strength, conductance, magnetic field and seismic (shear wave left and right, compression wave, elasticity modulus and poisson’s ratio).
