The future of road construction was front and centre at Future Roads 2025, and Insitutek was proud to take part as a presenter at this important industry event, held on 19–20 November at the Claudelands Events Centre in Hamilton, New Zealand. The two-day conference brought together professionals from across the roading sector, alongside government and technology leaders, to share practical ideas and real-world solutions for building smarter, more sustainable transport networks.
The program featured panel discussions with industry and government leaders, major project updates, local and international case studies, expert technical presentations, an interactive exhibition, training sessions, and networking opportunities, finishing with the industry dinner and New Zealand Rising Star Award presentation. Key focus areas included leadership and government strategy, procurement, materials, emerging technologies, and smart traffic management systems.
As part of the international speaker program, Robin Power, Chief Executive of Insitutek, presented “Unlocking the Secrets Behind a Modern Integrated Compaction Testing Approach.” His session highlighted the importance of achieving consistent, verifiable compaction across earthworks, foundations, backfilling, and pavements to support durable infrastructure outcomes. Robin outlined how combining intelligent roller instrumentation with in-situ testing and real-time feedback creates an Integrated Compaction Control System, enabling uniform, quantified compaction to be delivered more efficiently and with greater confidence.
Using case studies from the Pacific region, the presentation demonstrated how advancements in roller technology and in-situ testing methods now allow contractors to verify effective compaction to greater depths. These innovations support productivity improvements and sustainability gains while also providing valuable tools for roller operator training and strengthening Quality Assurance programs for asset owners.
The following day, Robin also hosted a round table discussion, in his role as Founding Chair of the Ground Level Alliance (GLA), on the topic of “Sustainability in Civil Construction – How to Make Sustainability a Daily Practice.” This round table discussion, with NZTA and civil engineering consultants, focused on practical ways organisations can embed sustainability into everyday operations, showing how small, consistent actions across projects can lead to real environmental impact while also supporting improved efficiency and stronger commercial outcomes. Robin highlighted how sustainability initiatives, when approached strategically, can benefit both the industry and an organisation’s bottom line.
Together, these sessions reinforced the value of combining innovation, data-driven construction practices, and sustainability leadership to deliver better infrastructure outcomes. The integrated compaction testing approach and daily sustainability practices presented at Future Roads 2025 demonstrate how the industry can achieve increased efficiency, reduced costs, improved quality, lower risk, and a reduced environmental footprint.
